Custom software development · 15–50 person companies
We build custom applications for businesses that have outgrown their tools.
Right now you are the operating system of your own business — the first call, the last call, and every call in between.
We build the software that takes that job back. One system where proposals, scheduling, billing, and the field finally agree, instead of six tools and a person in the middle reconciling them.

What we build
Custom software, shaped around how your business actually works.
ratio.dev is a senior team covering operational discovery, software architecture, integration, UX, and implementation. We connect the systems you already have, replace the ones holding you back, and build the operational layer missing between them.
Custom web applications
The system your operation runs on, built around your workflow instead of someone else's template.
Customer & partner portals
Somewhere for clients and subcontractors to see status, approve work, and stop calling the office.
Field & back-office apps
What the crew uses on site, connected to what the office sees the same minute.
Estimating, proposal & approval systems
Quotes that carry your pricing logic and turn into scheduled, billable work without retyping.
Scheduling & resource coordination
Jobs, people, and equipment on one board that reflects what is actually committed.
Real-time operations dashboards
The operational picture leadership can trust, without asking five people first.
Accounting & billing integrations
QuickBooks and your finance stack fed by the work itself, not by month-end data entry.
Systems integration
The tools worth keeping, wired together so they finally agree on what a customer or a job is.
AI in core workflows
Applied to the transactional work that delivers value — not to blog posts and social captions.
We use custom development, low-code platforms, integrations, automation, and AI according to the problem—not according to a predetermined technology stack. Most engagements reach a first working system in weeks, and meaningful progress is possible under $100K.
In their words
The people we built it for, on camera.
Why companies call us
Your company works—but too much of the work happens invisibly.
Eventually, the people become the integration layer.
That is not a scalable operating system.
Before we automate the business, we make it understandable.
A readable business can answer basic operational questions without calling five people or reconciling seven spreadsheets:
- What is happening right now?
- Who is responsible for what happens next?
- Where is work getting stuck?
- Which information is authoritative?
- How does value move from request to delivery?
- Which decisions depend on knowledge held by one person?
We work with leadership and the people doing the work to document the real operation—not merely the version described in a process manual.
Then we turn that shared understanding into a coherent operational model.
If the business cannot read itself, AI cannot read it either.
Once the operation is readable, intelligence becomes useful.
AI is not the foundation. It is a force multiplier applied to a sound foundation.
With coherent workflows, shared data, and explicit business rules, we can use automation and AI to:
- Surface exceptions before they become emergencies
- Eliminate repetitive coordination
- Accelerate operational decisions
- Give leadership real-time visibility
- Preserve knowledge that previously lived in individuals
- Improve the core workflow through which customers receive value
The goal is not to “add AI.”
The goal is to make the business observably better.
We will not solve one problem by creating three more.
Application slop is the accumulation of disconnected point solutions, each with its own data, logic, terminology, and idea of how your business works.
None of them agree—and an employee spends every Friday reconciling the differences.
We build differently.
- Every component must share the same operational reality.
- Every integration must reduce human coordination.
- Every new capability must make the entire business more coherent.
If it does not strengthen the system as a whole, it does not belong in the system.
How we work
We do not begin with a feature list.
Read
We talk to the people doing the work, map the real operation, and find the dependencies, exceptions, and bottlenecks hidden beneath the official process.
Model
We establish a shared language for the customers, jobs, resources, decisions, and transactions at the heart of the business.
Connect
We integrate the systems worth keeping and build the operational capabilities that are missing.
Amplify
We apply automation and AI where they can reduce coordination, improve decisions, or create compounding efficiency.
Read. Model. Connect. Amplify.
Case study · Ferry operator, Balearic Islands
They did not need more ships. They needed to see the space they already had.
Thirty years ago, we built a real-time booking system for a regional ferry company operating between the Balearic Islands.
Reservations lived in notebooks. Capacity information was distributed among travel agents, transport companies, and ports. Nobody could see the whole picture while there was still time to act on it.
We connected every voyage, ship, reservation, and available space in one readable system.
Capacity utilization improved—not because the company suddenly had more ships, but because the information finally existed.
The system is still operating today, extended across additional regions and routes. The company went on to grow 25-fold.

Readability creates the conditions for intelligence, efficiency, and growth.
Who we work with
For businesses that have become too complex to run from memory.
We are a strong fit when
- The company has approximately 15–50 employees
- Important knowledge lives in a handful of people
- Too many decisions return to the founder
- Core systems do not communicate
- Employees routinely copy information between tools
- Leadership lacks a trustworthy operational picture
- Growth is increasing complexity faster than capacity
- The business wants AI but lacks a coherent foundation
We are not the right partner for
- Adding isolated AI features
- Building disposable prototypes
- Implementing software without involving the people who will use it
Make the business readable. Then make it intelligent.
And never add another disconnected application simply because it was easy to build.
Tell us where the operation feels harder than it should. You do not need to arrive with a software specification.
